Meet the Providers:  MPFPMC 

 

Don Sakal, MMSc., PA-C is a veteran  Special Forces Medic (1977-80) and National Health Service Corps Physician Assistant (1995-97), Midlevel Practitioner with Master of Medical Science (MMSc) degree from Emory University School of Medicine.  Don is also CEO and administrates the entirety of the CMS-RHC program and the clinic as a small business and passed state inspection without any shortcomings.  Don has Family Practice, Internal and Emergency Medicine and Surgery experience and is a National Board Certified Physician Assistant  (PA-C) licensed to practice medicine in California and Washington.  He was previously licensed in Minnesota, Texas and Illinois.  Don has unlimited DEA prescribing privileges.  When Don attended the Emory Physician Assistant Program in Atlanta, Georgia his Master’s Thesis was published and won the National Technical Writing contest in PA-Today.  Don’s undergraduate degrees are Bachelor of Science  in Biology with minor in Chemistry and emphasis in Microbiology from Southern Oregon State University in Ashland, Oregon.  Don's senior Biology paper was on Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) applications to Prehistoric Cut-marks on Bone from Southwest Oregon, and it was a breakthrough to apply SEM to archeology at the time, and as senior student Don presented to professors at the Forty-Third Annual Northwest Anthropological Conference , March 22-24, 1990 in Eugene, Oregon.  Don was delighted/honored to bridge biology and anthropology via SEM.  Don also has an Associate Math/Science degree from Lassen College in Susanville, California.  Don was a Medical Technical Assistant,, Licensed Vocational Nurse and California Peace Officer for the  California Department of Corrections at the Susanville and Vacaville Correctional Centers (Prisons) and provided medical care to convicts for years to finance his ongoing schooling.  Don helped guide the Susanville SERT (swat team) development in its infancy in the mid-1980s.  As a Special Forces Green Beret Medic & Surgical Instructor, Don taught guerilla surgery  (emergency surgical procedures for the warfare situation, such as, debridement of gun-shot wounds and amputations) and worked the Aid Station just outside Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he trained other Green Berets.  Don also helped provide medical coverage for Delta tryouts.  Don offered outpatient Family Practice Medicine for all ages, to include various minor surgery, such as, excising various skin cancers.

 

 

Lijun Sakal, Ph.D., M.D. is a Family Practice Physician, who is American Family Practice Board Certified and licensed in the States of California and Washington.  She was previously licensed in Texas, Indiana and Oregon.  Dr. Sakal completed 3 years Family Practice Medical Residency training (one year in Texas and two years at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana in their Family Practice Rural Health Track Program where she obtained BCLS, ACSL, PALS and ALOS certifications.  Dr. Sakal has unlimited DEA prescribing privileges.  Prior to Family Practice Dr. Sakal did a research Fellowship in Immunology via the World Health Organization (WHO) at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, where she continued working after her fellowship.  In China, Dr. Sakal was the Attending Dermatologist at Beijing Hospital.  Her Doctorate degree/PhD is in Dermatology from Beijing Medical University in China.  Dr. Sakal was one of the first women to become a doctor in China after the cultural revolution (after Chinese Ruler Mao died).  

Dr. Sakal now brings her Family Practice expertise to Native Americans at Tribal Health, and her Dermatology to Glenn Medical in Willows.
